DO I HAVE TO HOST TO BE PART OF HUMAN HOTEL? 

No. It's totally up to you if you want to just be a guest or host (or both!).


WHAT DOES IT COST?

Becoming a member is free.

Guests pay a 10% fee on top of their booking total to our community. So, if you book a stay in NYC worth $200 - our booking fee is $20. 

Hosts set their own nightly rates and we don't charge any host fees. As a host, you keep 100% of your host rate.


I DON'T LIVE IN ONE OF YOUR CITIES. CAN I STILL JOIN?

Of course you can! You can join now no matter where you live.


WILL YOU ADD MORE CITIES?

Most definitely! More cities are added as we grow the community. We want to be able to host you everywhere you go and you can apply to join no matter where you live. 

If you want to start receiving guests but you city isn't listed with us, email us at contact@humanhotel.com and learn about how you and your community can start receiving guests by becoming an Ambassador.


WHERE CAN I HOST GUESTS?

Host guests in your LIVING ROOM, GUEST ROOM or rent out your ENTIRE HOME. Simply choose which spaces you can host guests in when you upload your host info.

WHO ARE THE GUESTS ?

CAN GUESTS SEE MY PROFILE TOO ?

Yes, but not your private info. Guests can see your:

  • Profile photo
  • First name
  • Hometown
  • Occupation
  • Age
  • Personal description
  • Description of your work
  • Work-related images

I LIVE IN A SMALL PLACE. CAN I STILL HOST?

Yes. You can host in a shared room, on the living room couch on in the floor of your studio. We believe all is good, as long as there's an acceptable level of comfort and cleanliness provided. 


DO I HAVE TO BE HOME TO HOST? 

No. Some of us can only host when we're traveling ourselves and staying elsewhere. In such cases - and if the guest is interested - we offer to connect the guest with local Human Hotel members in the area who would be interesting to meet.  


HOW MUCH SHOULD I CHARGE ?

You set your own rates. However, we'll only present you with guests worth supporting, so please support them by charging 5-10% less than you would on mainstream listing platforms. 


DO YOU TAKE A FEE FROM MY RATE ?

No.


HOW DO I GET PAID ?

We're working on an online payout system, but for now our hosts get paid directly in cash by their guest.


CAN I CANCEL MY HOSTING AGREEMENT AT ANY TIME?

Yes you can. There are no penalties for cancelled hosting agreements. But if you cancel your hosting agreement at the last minute, we expect you to have a very good reason to do so!


WHAT HAPPENS IF MY GUEST CANCELS?

If your guest cancels less than a week (7 days) before the booked arrival date, we will pay you 50% of their booking fee.

If your guest cancels 8 days or more prior to the booked arrival date, the guest will be refunded their full payment.
 


HAVE PROPERTY INSURANCE COVERAGE?

Yes we do. We're very committed to creating a safe and trusted Human Hotel environment, so even though we have never had any property damages (in our entire history), we understand that you need protection. 

We have therefore created our Host Insurance Fund which will reimburse eligible hosts for damages up to $10,000 (USD). If you experience any damages to your property, please send us a message immediately to hostinsurance@humanhotel.com and we'll handle the case accordingly and find an appropriate method of settlement between you and your guest.

HOW DO I PAY?

Our 10% fee is paid to us via Paypal (credit card payments are accepted). That payment confirms your booking and we'll connect you to your host upon receipt. You then pay your host directly in cash on the day of arrivial. 


CAN I CANCEL MY BOOKING AT ANY TIME?

Yes you can. We will refund 50% of your booking fee if you cancel at least one week (7 days) before your booked arrival date. There are no booking fee refunds for cancellations made in the final week before arrival. (50% of your fee will be shared with the host in such cases.)
